Whip Up Some Mac and Cheese for Election Day

Ready for election day? Well you’re not if you don’t have an Election Day recipe! Quite a few past presidents have named Mac and Cheese as one of their favorite dishes. Did you know that? Neither did I!

I certainly can’t blame them because there are few things better than a really tasty Mac and Cheese which is why we decided to put together a recipe for you just in time for Election Day. This recipe is very easy to put together and doesn’t take much time at all but trust me, it’s still tasty as all hell.

Election Day Mac and Cheese Recipe

Serving Size: 8

Ingredients

  • 1 Pound of Elbow Macaroni
  • 2 Cups of Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • 2 Cups of Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Cup Grated Parmesan (optional)
  • 6 Cups of Milk
  • 1/4 Cup of Flour
  • 3/4 Cup of Butter
  • 1 Cup Breadcrumbs (optional)

Preparation

I’m going to give you two options to work with so depending how short you are on time — you’re covered.

Alright it’s go time!

LONG METHOD

Step 1: Boil the macaroni according the your brand’s directions and drain.

Step 2: In a large pan add in your butter and melt it on medium heat before adding your flour. Mix together the two to make your roux.

Step 3: Slowly add your milk while stirring the butter and flour mixture. Once they are blended, add your cheese and stir until melted and thick gooey goodness on low heat.

Step 4: Pour your macaroni into the pan with all your other stuff and mix thoroughly. Now just pour it into your casserole dish and you’re almost done!

Step 5: Coat your mac and cheese with your breadcrumbs (optional). I usually add a layer of shredded cheese before the crumbs for extra cheesiness.

Step 6: Bake in the overn at 350 for 30-40 minutes and you’re ready to much.

SHORT METHOD

For the short method follow steps 1 to 4 and then serve up the amount you want to eat into oven safe dishes, coat with cheese, breadcrumbs if you want and pop under the broiler until browned then eat away. Hell you could even skip the broiler part, serve right out the pan and it’ll taste awesome. Enjoy!
